The Portsmouth Historical Society tells stories of town history from the Revolution through the 20th century. Its collections include fine English and Chinese ceramics, paintings, textiles, furniture, photos and manuscripts. The house served as wartime lodgings (1777, 1781) for the naval hero John Paul Jones, captain of the Ranger.
